NHL Flyover: Week Two

Hockey’s in full swing, and it’s hard to keep up with all those games. In NHL Flyover I’ll do a rundown of the action in the NHL each week and keep you up to date with big storylines and rivalries.

AROUND THE NHL

Saturday, Oct. 5:

  • The Buffalo Sabres beat the New Jersey Devils in a 7-2 final score.
  • The Pittsburgh Penguins also had a 7-2 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets.
  • The Montreal Canadians beat the Toronto Maple Leafs in a 6-5 Shootout. 
  • In an ove beat the Washington Capitals 3-2.

Sunday, Oct. 6:

  • The Carolina Hurricanes beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-3 in overtime.

Monday, Oct. 7:

  • The Columbus Blue Jackets beat the Buffalo Sabres in overtime.

Tuesday, Oct. 8:

  • The Carolina Hurricanes continued their winning streak with a 6-3 win over the Florida Panthers.
  • The Edmonton Oilers beat the New York Islanders 5-2. 
  • The Dallas Stars beat the Washington Capitals in overtime, 4-3. 
  • The Los Angeles Kings beat the Calgary Flames in overtime, 4-3.

Wednesday, Oct. 9:

  • The Buffalo Sabres beat the Montreal Canadians 5-4 in overtime.

Thursday, Oct. 10:

  • The Edmonton Oilers beat the New Jersey Devils 4-3 in a shootout 
  • The Dallas Stars lost to the Calgary Flames in a 3-2 Shootout.

Friday, Oct. 11:

  • The Buffalo Sabres beat the Florida Panthers in a 3-2 shootout.

 

IMPACT OF THE WEEK:

The Edmonton Oilers and Carolina Hurricanes started their seasons with 5 game winning streaks, the first time that’s happened in Hurricanes history.

Wayne Simmonds returned to Philadelphia in the Flyers home opener against the Devils. Simmonds had joked that he wanted the Philadelphia fans to boo him like they would any other opposing player, but of course, they didn’t.
