Pigeon Coop Postgame: Flyers Roadtrip Ends With Loss to Oilers

During the first period, the Edmonton Oilers came out strong with Leon Draisatl scoring in the first minute. It wasn’t the fastest or best start for the Philadelphia Flyers but were able to come out strong after the first goal was scored.

Spent a solid three minutes back and forth in both zones. The Flyers got shots on goal, but nothing went in. The Flyers looked strong on the powerplay, spending the majority of the time in the Edmonton zone, getting shots on goal and providing pressure to the Edmonton defense.

The orange and black got a lot of shots throughout the period, especially early. But it wasn’t until later that Jakub Voracek got a powerplay goal, tying it up at one. Before the period finished, Ethan Bear scored, ending the period at 2-1, Edmonton.

The second period started off well for Philadelphia with Voraceck getting a shot on goal early and with an Edmonton icing. The Flyers spent a lot of time in the first minutes of the period in the Oilers zone, having a lot of shots on goal, but not being able to finish.

There was a lot of pressure in front of the Edmonton net, the Flyers showing some determination to score and outshooting the Oilers. But Conner McDavid scored on a powerplay goal, it was a quick goal, putting Edmonton up 3-1. Sean Couturier got a penalty, putting the Oilers on the powerplay.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins than scored on the powerplay, making it 4-1. Carter Hart got pulled within seconds of the goal, putting Brian Elliott in goal, where he finished the powerplay and made his first save of the night.

There was then a loose puck, making another power-play goal go to Edmonton, scored by Draistail, his second of the night, on a rebound shot. The referees reviewed the play to see if the first shot had also gone in. It was ruled to be a single goal, keeping it 5-1.

A little skirmish finished the period, with a lot of pushing and shoving in front of the Edmonton goal.

The third period starts with a delayed penalty on the Oilers, putting the Flyers on the power play. The orange and black used it to put pressure on the Oilers. But the effort was not successful for the Flyers as four minutes into the period Brandon Manning scored, making it 6-1, Oiler.s.

Seven minutes into the game, the Flyers are still battling for a second goal, when Travis Konecny gets cross-checked into the board, followed by a lot of pushing and shoving. Flyers go on a power play, where it gets killed off with no goals.

With four minutes left in the game, Oskar Lindblom makes it 6-2, before the Flyers go on another power play. There is also another delayed penalty for Edmonton, making it 5-on-3 for Philadelphia. Voracek scores another power-play goal with 2:18 left in the game, while Elliott is taken out of the net.
