October 19th: Stars 4/Flyers 1
The Flyers came out strong in the first few minutes of this home game after a road trip through Western Canada. Hoping to break a losing streak, and not having had to deal with extensive travel, the Flyers had the perfect opportunity to come up with a win against the Dallas Stars who came into Philadelphia with a 1-7-1 record playing the second game of a back-to-back.
In the first minute of the game, the Flyers were on the board with a Sean Couturier goal. Seconds later the Flyers went on the first power play of the game after an Alex Radulov high sticking against Oskar Lindblom. The Flyers were unable to capitalize on that power play or the power play they would get seven minutes into the first period after a tying goal by Stars Roope Hintz.
The Stars added to their lead with a power-play goal from Esa Lindell and Chris Stweart dropped the gloves with Jamie Oleksiak shortly after. The fight helped to keep fans interested for a while, but the momentum never swung back in the Flyers direction.
The second period went by with no goals from either team, despite two more power plays for the Flyers.
Corey Perry and Miro Heiskanen added two more goals for the Stars in the third period giving the Flyers their fourth straight loss.
Cage Cleaning
- Chris Stewart got his first fight as a Flyer, taking on Jamie Oleksiak. The fight got fans worked up for the rest of the period but didn’t do much to rally the troops on the ice.
- The Flyers offense has been missing lately, but their defensive scheme has been effective in limiting opposing teams shots on goal. The Flyers outshot the Oilers 52-22 and similarly outshot the Stars 39-16.
- Alain Vigneault isn’t ready to panic after the Flyers slow start. The results have been bad, but the Flyers have looked good. According to the coach, if they stick it out, good things will start happening.
