Postgame: Flyers beat Hurricanes 4-1

November 5 – Flyers 4/Hurricanes 1

In the third of a four-game homestand, the Philadelphia Flyers started rough with a bad turnover two minutes into the game and were luckily bailed out by Carter Hartt. Within the first few minutes of the game, Hart had three consecutive saves against the Carolina Hurricanes. Hart would be a major factor in the first 2 periods keeping the Flyers in the game.

Travis Konecny was hit up high giving the Flyers an early power play. The Flyers have improved on their powerplay this season, proven tonight when Sean Couturier scored his fourth goal of the season with an assist by Matt Niskanen, making the score 1-0 early on.

About halfway through the period, Joel Farabee was called for a tripping penalty. Special teams have been a persistent issue for the Flyers, but with a new team behind the benches, both the power play and the penalty kill have improved with the Flyers letting up limited chances on three Hurricanes power plays and no goals.

In the second, the Flyers had nine seconds of power-play time before Ivan Provorov was called for hooking Sebastian Aho. Aho broke through the Flyers defense for a rush and a scoring chance that Hart managed to shut down before going to 4-on-4.

Halfway through regulation, Lucas Wallmark tied the game at one, with a wrist shot and an assist by Trevor van Riemsdyk.

Travis Konecny opened the period with an early goal, a little over a minute into the period. The goal was assisted by Niskanen and Couturier and energized the Flyers ahead of another Hurricanes penalty. Most of the power-play was spent in the Hurricanes’ zone and the orange and black seemed restless.

At the 12:59 mark, Farabee scored an unassisted goal, making it 3-1 for the Flyers. The goal was reviewed by the Hurricanes and almost challenged, but Carolina let the goal stand.

Claude Giroux put the final nail in the coffin with a slap shot goal giving the Flyers a comfortable 4-1 lead.
