Around the NWHL:
The month of January was filled with preparation for the upcoming All-Star Weekend (Feb 8th – 9th). By January 9th, the All-Stars had been selected and captains Jillian Dempsey and Madison Packer drafted their teams. Full team lineups can be found on the NWHL site.
The League also named honorary coaches for the event. The Boston Pride’s head coach, Paul Mara will be joined by his niece Caitlin Mara and Boston Pride assistant coach Heath Gordon in coaching team Dempsey.
Team Packer will be coached by Everly Raycroft and former Boston Bruins and Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Andrew Raycroft.
Due to the successful ticket sales for the All-Star weekend events, the NWHL added an extra event for fans to participate in. On the day of the main event, fans will be able to join NWHL All-Start participants for an hour of skating time.
Fans of all ages and skating ability are invited to participate in the one-hour skate at Warrior Ice Arena with their NWHL heroes, including captain Jillian Dempsey and several of her teammates from the Boston Pride, along with Riveters and All-Star captain Madison Packer and many other NWHL favorites. – NWHL Release
The NWHL debuted an all-new weekly interview show “NWHL Open Ice”. The show will broadcast live every week on Twitch and be hosted by Dr. Lindsey Migliore also known as “GamerDoc”. Migliore, a medical doctor, gamer, and recent hockey player herself, is joined by guests (so far, al NWHL players) to talk about hockey and their life outside the rink. Twitch chat lets fans interact in real-time and ask questions as Dr. Migliore relays questions to her guests.
The Boston Pride suffered their first defeat of the season in January, but they also picked up a new partnership. OCHO Candy, and organic candy bar producer, has signed a partnership agreement with the Pride for the rest of the NWHL season.
“Our entire team at OCHO Candy are big believers in women’s sports and we are very proud to support the Boston Pride during this period of significant growth for the NWHL and women’s hockey,” said Scott Kucirek, CEO of OCHO Candy. “Along with their devoted fans, OCHO Candy is backing the Pride all the way to what we hope will be the team’s second Isobel Cup.” – NWHL Release
