November 10th: Flyers 3/Bruins 2 (Shootout)
The Philadelphia Flyers earned their fourth straight win in six days against the Boston Bruins on Sunday night, backed by stellar goaltending from Carter Hart. Hart made his fourth start in five games, while Jaroslav Halak got the start for Boston in goal. The Flyers came into this game with points in five straight games, riding a 7-2-1 record since October 21st. The Flyers, although giving up another two-goal lead, were able to defeat the Bruins in a shootout by a score of 3 to 2.
With six minutes remaining in the first period, the Flyers struck first with a rebound goal from Travis Konecny. Sean Couturier and Oskar Lindblom earned assists on the goal that put the Flyers up 1-0, continuing Konecny’s hot streak. Phil Myers doubled the Flyers lead with two minutes left in the first, shooting the puck off the goal-post and in, to make it 2-0.
Going into the second period, the Bruins were able to get one on the board when Danton Heinen scored a wrap-around goal six minutes into the period. The Bruins’ lone goal was the only scoring of the second period.
Just over halfway through the third period, Brad Marchand put the puck above Hart’s glove-hand, tying the game at 2-2. This is the second game in a row that the Flyers have given up two-goal leads to their opponent. The Bruins’ David Pastrnak, the NHL’s leading goal-scorer, had a penalty shot opportunity late in the period, but Hart denied his opportunity, pushing the game to overtime.
Five minutes of overtime was not enough for either team to score, even though the Flyers went on the power play in the last half-minute of the OT period. The game would then head to a shootout. Charlie Coyle shot first but was denied by Hart. Rookie Joel Farabee however, put the puck past Halak to give the Flyers a lead. Both Marchand and Claude Giroux then missed their shots, however, Hart made the save against the final shooter, Pastrnak, to win the game 3-2. The Flyers moved into third place of the Metropolitan Division with this shootout win.

- Phil Myers has been a star player and key asset in the Flyers’ last few games. His goal against the Bruins was his third goal in three games, showcasing his offensive talent. Not only is he putting up points, but he also has made crucial defensive plays whether clearing the net, back-checking or being physical. “Philly” Myers is quickly becoming a fan favorite in Philadelphia.
- The Flyers’ young players, now informally known by fans as “The Kids”, have been proving their skill game after game. This group refers to players such as Oskar Lindblom, Joel Farabee, Phil Myers, Carter Hart, Travis Konecny, etc. Oskar Lindblom has scored eight goals in 16 games thus far, the same amount of goals he had scored in 57 games last season. Lindblom and Konecny are tied for the Flyers’ leading goal-scorers with 8 goals apiece.
- The Flyers have not ended a game in regulation in quite some time. They have gone to overtime five times in their last six games; their shootout against Boston was their second shootout in two games, beating Toronto on Saturday night. Carter Hart and Joel Farabee both came up big for the Flyers tonight, Hart stopping all three Boston shots, and Farabee being the only Flyer to score during the shootout.
